Mary L. Rigdon, Freedom Center Director and Associate Professor of Political Economy & Moral Science, will be a featured participant on a panel addressing the gender wage gap and negotiating your salary/benefits organized by the UArizona Systems & Industrial Engineering Department (SIE). The panel is called “Engineering Your Future: Equity, Equality, and Earnings” and includes Emily McCarthy, UArizona Sr. Director of Career Development and Cindy Klingberg, an SIE alumna who was with Raytheon for more than two decades. The event is on Thursday, November 9th, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the Kiva Room at the Student Union. Please RSVP using the QR Code in the PDF below.
Mary is one of the foremost experts on gender competitiveness and the wage gap. She has conducted extensive research, funded by the National Science Foundation and pursued with Alessandra Cassar, Professor of Economics at the University of San Francisco, revealing that women don’t have a lower desire to compete; they are motivated differently. Her research has been cited by the World Economic Forum as one of fifteen strategies helping to close the gender wage gap around the world, and it has been covered by national and international media. Mary was among the featured speakers at the UArizona Wonder House at SXSW earlier this year.
The panel is part of SIE’s Equity and Engineering Panel Series, established by Mildred Curran, M.Ed., SIE Senior Academic Advisor. SIE is the nation’s first academic systems engineering program, and it prepares students for success with some of the world’s top research institutions and companies, ranging from Raytheon to Walt Disney.
