How Bias and Behavior Perpetuate the Gender Wage Gap

Bio:

Jennifer Pate is a Professor of Economics at Loyola Marymount University. She is also currently serving as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Programs for Liberal Arts. Abstract:

This talk explores the persistent issue of the gender wage gap through the lens of behavioral economics and social biases. While strides have been made toward closing the gap, women still earn less on average than men, even after accounting for factors like education, experience, and occupation. We will examine how implicit biases, workplace norms, and decision-making behaviors contribute to this disparity. By analyzing both employer and employee perspectives, we reveal how positive intentions, and behavioral patterns reinforce existing wage inequalities
