Author
Michael McKenna
Philosophers often claim that only libertarians about free will face the notorious “luck problem”—the worry that indeterminism makes actions a matter of chance rather than genuine control. McKenna challenges this assumption, arguing that compatibilists face the same problem. He shows why standard compatibilist resources, like reasons-responsiveness, are insufficient to defuse it and proposes a new strategy for compatibilists to address luck without undermining moral responsibility.
