Steve Wall and David Sobel
Philosophers often distinguish between subjective and objective goods, but little attention has been given to hybrid goods—elements of well-being that combine both. Wall and Sobel argue that a hybrid good includes value determined by one’s warrantless favoring attitudes alongside value grounded in objective features. Exploring cases like Rawls’s “grass counter” and substantive goods such as friendship, they show how hybrid goods reveal complexities in how attitudes shape prudential value and illuminate the challenges of choosing between incommensurably good options.
