Anthony Gillies

Anthony (Thony) Gillies is the Sherwin Scott Professor in the Department of Philosophy and has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Linguistics. Prior to returning to the University of Arizona in 2021, he held faculty positions at Rutgers University, the University of Michigan, Harvard University, and the University of Texas at Austin. In 2014 he was the White Distinguished Professor in the Philosophy of Language at the University of Chicago.

His research ranges over many different areas including the formal semantics of natural language, philosophical logic, epistemology, and the foundations of rational choice and the decision sciences. It has appeared in journals such as Philosophical Review, Mind, Noûs, Natural Language Semantics, Philosophers’ Imprint, Semantics & Pragmatics, Linguistics & Philosophy, Journal of Philosophical Logic, and Review of Behavioral Economics.
