Scott Casleton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science and a Core Faculty Member at the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom. Prior to joining the Freedom Center, he obtained his PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on free speech in the digital age, examining how norms of liberty, equality, and privacy apply to social media platforms, search engines, and internet pornography. This requires an understanding of the moral foundations of freedom of speech and the relationship of free speech to privacy, equality, and democracy. Casleton is also studying the development of value theory in the Early Modern Period. His written works are published for both academic and public audiences and you can learn more about these publications and his research on his website.
