For those unable to attend the April 5, 2023 event at the Fox Tucson Theatre, and others who want to see it again, the video of the entire program – Women’s Equity in Sports: The Fight, the Scars, and the Thrill of Victory – is now available.
This is the Freedom Center’s third Public Discussion Forum and was co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women Tucson (AZ) Branch. Freedom Center Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science Mary L. Rigdon described them as a panel of “literal superheroes…women who raise other women.”
Adia BarnesKathryn BertineAJ MleczkoSarah SpainKathrine Switzer, and moderator Damien Alameda delivered an event to remember. Through raw and powerful stories mingled with humor and inspiration, their call to action was unmistakable. We’ve come a long way but still have a long way to go to achieve women’s equity in sports and society.

The Public Discussion Forum Series was created by Mary L. Rigdon and Center Associate Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science, Saura Masconale. These panels create a public space where people with expertise in industry, education, and public policy come together to talk about topics of general public interest.
