Freedom Center Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science Mary L. Rigdon described them as “literal superheroes.”

Attendees of the Center’s third Public Discussion Forum panel – Women’s Equity in Sports: The Fight, the Scars, and the Thrill of Victory – co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women Tucson (AZ) Branch now know why.

Adia Barnes, Kathryn Bertine, AJ Mleczko, Sarah Spain, Kathrine Switzer, and moderator Damien Alameda delivered an event to remember. Through raw and powerful stories mingled with humor and inspiration, their call to action was unmistakable. We’ve come a long way but still have a long way to go to achieve women’s equity in sports and society.

The event started with a bang, thanks to an introductory sizzle video created by UA student and Creative Services Intern Jordan Oslowski, produced in collaboration with Arizona Athletic Assistant Director for Creative Services John Daley. It set the tone for a night of education and inspiration.

Stay tuned. The full panel video will be posted soon.

The Freedom Center’s Public Discussion Forum Series was created by Center Director and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science Mary L. Rigdon and Center Associate Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science Saura Masconale. These panels create a public space where people with expertise in industry, education, and public policy come together to talk about topics that are of general public interest.
