European Summer School Programs, hosted by the Freedom Center in partnership with renowned European universities, offers students an immersive educational experience at the intersection of philosophy, politics, economics, and law (PPEL). Held in iconic locations such as Italy, France, and Romania, the program combines opportunities to engage with esteemed faculty and visiting scholars on collaborative projects and discussions that explore complex societal issues, including governance, market dynamics, property rights, and the ethical dimensions of political decision-making. Law, Markets, and Public Policy Workshop in Acciaroli, Italy
Leading scholars from around the world attended the Law, Markets, and Public Policy Workshop in beautiful Acciaroli, Italy June 19 – 21, 2025. Hosted at the scenic Hotel Resort La Pineta, this interdisciplinary event explored urgent questions at the intersection of law, economics, and policy. Led by faculty and affiliated professionals associated with the University of Arizona, Center for the Philosophy of Freedom and co-organized by the University of Salerno, the workshop features expert keynote speakers. The 2025 program included Andrew Clark (Paris School of Economics), Maria Paola Ferretti (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz), Roberta Gatti (World Bank), and Nicola Persico (Northwestern University). Topics focused on the rule of law, corruption, social norms, public policy, and regulation.
This workshop is currently being planned with a scientific committee to re-convene in 2026. Keep an eye out for future details on registration!
LUMSA-EMLE-FC Summer School on Law, Economics, and Ethics of Markets and Regulation
June 13 – 17, 2022, Freedom Center scholars traveled to Rome to partner with LUMSA (Libera Università degli Studi Maria Ss. Assunta di Roma) University in Rome and the European Master in Law & Economics (EMLE) for the LUMSA-EMLE-FC Summer School on Law, Economics, and Ethics of Markets and Regulation.
The weeklong program included lectures, workshops, and presentations for EMLE students and other attendees. Freedom Center scholars, including Saura Masconale, Antonio Nicita, Mary Rigdon, David Schmidtz, and Simone Sepe, delivered lectures along with Luigino Bruni (LUMSA University), Pierre Garello (Aix-Marseille University), Laura Palazzani (LUMSA University), Federico Raimondi Slepoi (Erasmus University Rotterdam), and Matteo Rizzolli (LUMSA University).
