2021: Institute for European Studies-Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom – Romania – FC Summer Seminar, June 20-26, Urlati

Twenty students attended the 2021 Freedom Center summer school, organized by the Freedom Center, the European think-tank Institute for European Studies (IES), and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. FC Founding Director David Schmidtz and Center scholars Saura Masconale, Simone Sepe, and West Virginia University Professor of economics Cathleen Johnson joined with the President of IES-Europe, Professor of Economics at the Faculté d’Economie et Gestion of Aix Marseille University in France, and Editor-in-Chief of both the Journal des Économistes et des Études Humaines and Journal des Libertés, Prof. Pierre Garello and IES Executive Director and University of Bucharest Prof. Christian Nausulea to lead sessions addressing significant issues, including the foundations of liberty, corruption, trade, rent-seeking, the economics of law, incomplete markets and freedom of contract, and blockchain economics.  Attendees included undergraduates, graduates, and PhDs from Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, and Brazil.

The Freedom Center partnered up with the Institute for European Studies (IES) and IES Executive Director and University of Bucharest Prof. Christian Nausulea to deliver a one-day workshop on the “Commercial Society” for high-school teachers. The workshop focused on training high-school teachers in teaching social science classes by incorporating elements of both economics and ethics, drawing inspiration from the book co-authored by the FC Founding Director David Schmidtz and West Virginia University Professor of economics Cathleen Johnson.
