Spencer Case, a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom recently hosted Mark Schroeder on podcast, Micro-Digressions. Here is the video version of the episode; the audio-only version can be found on Spotify and other common podcatchers. Schroeder joined Spencer to discuss his new book, When Things Get Personal. One of the book’s key ideas is the signal/noise distinction. Roughly, this amounts to the distinction between what truly reflects on a person and what reflects external influences on that person’s thoughts and behavior. Personal relationships require us to draw this distinction somehow, and drawing it in the wrong place leads to various relationship dysfunctions. It’s a fascinating conversation, and we hope you enjoy it.
